Did
you get it? We’ve just come through another Christmas season, did
celebrating the birth of Jesus capture you in a new way? Was there
something God showed you or reminded you of this year?
It’s
very easy to get caught up in a flurry of activity preparing for Christmas,
e.g., shopping, gift wrapping, decorating, baking, cooking, eating, etc., that we
miss the reason for the main event. We also can be in such a routine
that we go through the month like any other month and we don’t allow ourselves
to be impacted by God with the significance of the birth of Jesus.
It has been said that Jesus was the only human born for
the purpose of dying. Obviously, that refers to his sacrificial death for our
salvation. While that is true, It isn’t quite complete. Before we skip from
his birth t
o
his suffering, death, and resurrection, let us recall the Gospels record a
portion of his life. That record may be limited mostly to the last three years
of his earthly life, but we get insight in to how he lived and related to
people. One thing we should notice is that he lived how God intended humans to
live and relate to one another before sin intruded. Sin is an intrusion.
Our remedy is Jesus’ victory over sin and the indwelling, empowering Holy
Spirit.
As the new year begins, purpose in your heart to spend
time with Jesus, getting to know him and allowing him to change you so
you
become more like him. You do that through interacting with Scripture, prayer,
and obeying the Holy Spirit as he speaks to you. Invite someone along with you
on your adventure and make it a mutually encouraging relationship where you
challenge one another in your relationship with Jesus.
